Yerania del Orbe Latina Made Media™

Enchanted by moving pictures before I could even write, as a child I made picture books and would act them out for my parents often casting - and then directing - my older sisters in the plays.
I fell in love with the transformative way cinema made me feel and I wanted everyone to feel the way I did.
Growing up in a low-income neighborhood in the Morrisania section of The South Bronx I learned that the chances of a young Dominican girl from a poor family making it as a filmmaker were slim-to-none. So, I did what anyone would do who wanted to escape the poverty I came from: I joined the Army.
After 10 years and a tour in Iraq I became disabled and was honorably discharged. I decided to return to New York City with the hope of becoming an actress.
I enrolled at the New School University and began taking several courses in Filmmaking. With a focus on story development, writing, and creating characters, I found myself drawn to the motivations of the characters - the things that made them live and breathe.
I am a member of Women in Film & Television New England and Women In Film. I live in Somerville, Massachusetts. With my family, husband Michael, and our children, Aniello and Valentina.

This is our story
